By |

Meet Marley! Female German Shepherd, approximately 1.5 years old, and 38 lbs,

The fall session is upon us! The dogs have started training and learning new skills from their teen handlers.

This session, we have Daphne, Lady, Marley, and Scooby!

Our second adoption event will be at Smoky Mountain Brewery in Turkey Creek. We invite you to come by to meet them and let them show off some of their first week of training. They are looking for their furrever homes!

Marley, pictured left, is a German Shepherd. She is about a year and a half old.

Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, please come by to meet the class! Socializing is an important part of our training as we want to introduce them to other people and environments.

All dogs are medically screened, fully vaccinated, microchipped, on heartworm preventative and flea/tick meds, and will have beginner basic obedience training at the end of their 4-week course.

We are accepting applications and will work on home visits while classes are going on. All dogs will be able to go to their new homes on Friday, October 3rd, after graduations and completed home visits.

All breeds and ages are the best guess from the shelter, our Dog Selection Committee, and our  Veterinarian.

This event is rain or shine.

Daphne is an adorable Australian shepherd/cattle dog mix, female, approx. 4 years old, 45 lbs.

Scooby is a fun hound mix, a muscular fella at 48 pounds. He’s about 2 years old

Lady is a gorgeous shepherd mix. She is about 2 years old and 50 pounds.

Announcing Fall 2025 Session

By | Fundraiser, News

Fall is quickly approaching, and so is our upcoming HALT class! Dogs have been selected and are currently with our friends at Ideal Veterinary Hospital, getting fully checked out. We partnered with the excellent team at C.A.R.E. in Jefferson County this session, and they helped us choose what seems to be a fantastic group of dogs.

Sneak peek until their photo shoot is done. Meet Daphne! She was listed as a mixed breed, so we’ll try to figure that out more as we get to know her. They think she’s about 4 years old.

While our veterinary team is getting the dogs through their physicals, our residential facility partners are getting the teen trainers ready for a fun and memorable learning experience that will last a lifetime.

Classes start the week of September 8th, and graduations the week of September 29th. The dogs will be ready to go to their new homes on Friday, October 3rd.

Our Amazon Wish List has some of the training gear and treats we’ll need for this session if you’d like to help. As items are purchased they disappear from the list. Update! The generosity of some of our volunteers and past adopters have purchased all the new harnesses, collars, and leashes for the four dogs. Thank you! There are treats and some other class supplies listed at the time of this update.

Our first adoption event will be the Sunday before classes start. We’ll be at Willow Ridge Garden Center in Oak Ridge Sunday, September 7th, from 1p-3p. Please come by to meet them! Socialization is a big part of their training with us, and we like to start right away.

We have volunteer opportunities available if you’d like to help out this session! Volunteer with a class – 2 times a week for 4 weeks. Help with adoption events – typically 1-3pm on Sundays in the Fall. Looking for a little more behind the scenes? If you love planning events, fundraising, or working on marketing or social media, reach out to info@haltdoogs.org to let us know! We have opportunities available here as well.

We are very excited to learn more about our new groups of dogs and teen trainers in the coming weeks, and sharing them with you!
